Coco Retro: intimate and stylish dining areas in the English town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, about 60 miles from London. Designed by 32mq.
In the heart of Tunbridge Wells, just outside London, Coco Retro, serves the best of classic French delicacies from caviar to champagne and adds a French touch to the English town.
The brief for the design studio 32 mq was to provide three intimate and stylish dining areas for three different dining experiences. At first you find a lobby and bar area with a unique circular brass bar counter. It dominates the space and provides a perfect place for people watching on the street outside. Then, passing through a wooden and glass divider, guests reach the ground floor brasserie. Exposed brick walls with natural wooden features and Bordeaux tinted furniture sets the cosy scene of the space. Dark wooden panels line the walls and traverse up onto the ceiling, with beautiful globe lights.
A dark-black staircase leads to a bright, modern and luxurious restaurant space, in stark contrast to the atmosphere of the lower floor. This difference is even more highlighted by the white and powder blue colour palette. The ceiling has been removed to expose the roof structure and light wooden columns. Moreover the restaurant windows face the outside train station clock though a traditional leaded window, adding a romantic feeling to the space.
Finally, the wall illustrations resembling typical Parisian style, together with powder blue armchairs and copper tables, give to the restaurant a touch of modernity and true romance of the French kind. On the background, the kitchen reveals itself through a horizontal glass internally framed in brass.
